A woman from Bethany, Oklahoma died Tuesday in a wrong way crash on Interstate 35. Annie Lilliard, 36, was traveling on I-35 Tuesday afternoon. That is when police say a vehicle traveling in the opposite lane crossed over into Lillard’s lane, hitting her head on. Unfortunately, Lillard died instantly in the crash. The driver of the other vehicle has been identified as 58 year old Stanley Reyes. Reyes’s blood alcohol was measured at the scene to determine potential impairment. Captain Paul Timmons of the Oklahoma Highway Patrol said that Reyes was “probably under the influence.” At this time, no charges have been filed and the cause of the accident remains under investigation.
Lillard was well-known locally as a business owner. Many of her friends spoke of her legacy on Wednesday afternoon. Our condolences are with the friends and family of Annie Lillard during this difficult time.
Driving Under the Influence
Accidents caused by drivers under the influence of drugs and alcohol have become a common site across our state. Unfortunately, despite the laws against drunk driving and the dangers involved, many people still choose to drive while impaired. In such cases, innocent citizens such as Annie Lillard are killed by reckless drivers. The crash then turns into a potential wrongful death action against the driver.
Oklahoma personal injury attorney Kent McGuire routinely handles wrongful death cases and cases involving impaired drivers. These are some of the most troubling and tragic cases that we see in our daily practice. Often, innocent victims, including children, are killed due to the irresponsible actions of a person who should not be driving to begin with.
