The History of the SOSA Neighborhood of Oklahoma City
“SoSA” is the informal name of a neighborhood located south of St. Anthony Hospital near downtown Oklahoma City. Many residents refer to SOSA as the “cottage district” because the area was historically known for its quaint cottage-like homes.
In recent years, many of those cottage-style homes have been renovated into contemporary homes, which initially stood out in the area. Led by architects Brian Fitzsimmons, Randy Floyd, and Michael Smith, the area is now known for its contemporary architecture. It also boasts a hilltop view of the downtown Oklahoma skyline while remaining within walking distance of downtown attractions.
Like much of midtown Oklahoma City, the SOSA neighborhood experienced a general decline after World War II, as area residents flocked to the suburbs. The area’s renaissance generally began back in 2002. That renaissance was further encouraged when St. Anthony Hospital reached an agreement to keep its anchor facility in the neighborhood.
Today, SOSA is within walking distance of a wide range of shops, restaurants, bars, and other downtown amenities.
Some of the most notable attractions nearby include:
- Red Andrews Park
- Oklahoma City National Memorial & Museum
- Saint Joseph’s Old Cathedral
- Oklahoma Hall of Fame

McGuire Law Firm is an award-winning personal injury law firm. Our trial lawyers have over 60 years of collective experience helping accident victims recover damages to make up for their injuries. We have the tools to handle any personal injury claim–no matter how big or small.
Some of our primary practice areas include:
Approximately 18,862 motor vehicle accidents were reported in Oklahoma County in 2020. Those auto accidents caused more than 5,000 injuries and at least 73 fatalities.
Many car and truck accident victims discover too late that their insurance settlement won’t cover the full costs of the accident. Our lawyers are here to help you fight to win a settlement that fully accounts for your losses. If the insurance company refuses a fair deal, we won’t hesitate to fight for your rights at trial.
SOSA is a pedestrian-friendly neighborhood. Parking shortages are common whenever an event takes place in the area.
Unfortunately, walking around downtown can be dangerous for pedestrians and bicyclists. Pedestrian and bike accident victims often suffer broken bones, brain injuries, and even permanent paralysis.
If you were hit by a car or sustained injuries in a slip and fall accident, treating your injuries could cost hundreds of thousands of dollars. Our lawyers are here to provide the high-quality legal advice you need while we fight to recover every dollar you deserve.
Construction sites are a common sight across SOSA and downtown Oklahoma City. These construction sites can be dangerous–both for construction workers and bystanders.
Construction accidents often happen because of:
- Lack of safety protection equipment
- Defective products and work equipment
- Violation of state safety regulations
- Dangerous premises
If you were hurt, you could be entitled to workers’ compensation benefits. You may also be eligible to file a third-party lawsuit for additional damages.
Many SOSA-area residents rely on Uber and Lyft to get around town. At the touch of a button, you can hail a ride and avoid the search for parking. Still, Uber accidents are nearly as common as car accidents in OKC. If you were hurt, you may be entitled to protection under Uber’s commercial insurance policy.
Our SOSA accident attorneys can help protect your legal rights. All you have to do is call for a free case review today.
Proving Liability in a SOSA Personal Injury Case
Sadly, most serious accidents are preventable. They happen because someone was negligent. Negligence is a legal term that describes a failure to exercise reasonable caution under the circumstances.
To prove negligence, you must establish:
- The at-fault party’s legal duty of care
- A breach of duty occurred
- The breach was the direct cause of your accident
- You sustained damages
Our lawyers will launch an investigation to locate evidence to support your case. We’ll interview witnesses, find video footage, and analyze the police report and your medical records. We may even hire experts who can offer insight into what caused your injuries.
Statute of Limitations in Oklahoma Personal Injury Cases
The statute of limitations is a deadline. If you don’t take legal action and file a personal injury lawsuit before the applicable deadline, you’ll forfeit your right to compensation.
In most cases, the statute of limitations in Oklahoma is two years from the date of your accident. However, you could have more or less time, depending on the facts.
